Imprudence and this is the beginning of a race against time. Today, every second fire is the result of human imprudence. On the edge of the forest, a barbecue, a campfire, a cigarette thrown from the window of the car can cause fire starts. Few imprudences take place in the heart of the forest: 80% of the fires start within 50 meters of the houses. And it is close to homes that vigilance must be the most increased: work causing sparks (saw, DIY, welding ...), butt jet, etc.
In addition, fuel storage near homes (firewood, paint, gas tanks) can be an aggravating factor. These risky behaviors concern both local residents and tourists. Today, 32 departments are particularly exposed to forest fires, areas where weather conditions (wind, drought, heat ...) can spread violently and quickly these fires. During a fire, the fire department (18) and emergencies (112 or 114, for the deaf and hard of hearing) should be alerted as soon as possible. The exact location of the fire must be indicated for a quick and effective response of the emergency. The residents must confine themselves in their house, the best shelter in case of fire.
The prefecture also provides information (via its website or an answering machine) on the risk of forest fire. Remember that every year on average in France, 3,000 fires ravage nearly 12,000 ha of forests.
