Desert particles from the Sahara are still present in large quantities in the region. They are added to those emitted locally by various activities: industry, road traffic, heating.
The alert level is triggered for the departments of Alpes de Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-Maritimes and Var for February 26.
The Alpes-Maritimes and the Var will also be affected by an alert procedure on February 27.
Emergency measures aimed at reducing pollutant emissions have been put in place in the departments concerned by the alert procedure.
Health and behavioral recommendations
For the entire population, regardless of the level
• Limit exposure to irritants (tobacco, solvents, paints, wood heating, exposure to pollens in season);
• Maintain normal aeration and ventilation practices;
• In the event of symptoms and unusual discomfort, take advice from your pharmacist or doctor.
In terms of information
For vulnerable * or sensitive ** populations:
• Limit travel on major highways and their surroundings, during peak periods (7 am-10am / 4 pm-7pm);
• Limit strenuous physical and sports activities, outdoors or indoors;
• In the event of an ozone pollution episode, limit going out in the early afternoon (between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.).
* Vulnerable people: pregnant women, infants and children under 5, people over 65, asthmatic subjects, suffering from cardiovascular pathologies, cardiac or respiratory failure.
** Sensitive people: people who recognize themselves as sensitive during pollution peaks and / or whose symptoms appear or are amplified during peaks; for example: diabetics, immunocompromised, suffering from neurological disorders or at risk of heart, respiratory, infection.
