Dolls in Provencal costume - Provencal cultural center
From August 11 to September 22, 2024
Opening Friday, August 9, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. - heritage museum
The dolls were acquired over the years, and each dressed in a different costume, depending on the doll's appearance, its morphology, its posture. Such a tall and thin one, nicely coiffed, will wear a bourgeois or noblewoman's outfit, such a stockier one will be dressed as a peasant or a craftswoman.
Each costume is a whole, the various pieces go together both by their era and by their destination. The peasant woman does not wear lace or embroidery, the bourgeois woman does not have striped wool stockings or a work skirt in coarse canvas.
For each one we have given a short explanation of the costume.
These miniatures are also an excellent educational way to show novices the elements of the costume and how to wear it.
