CIVIL MARRIAGE

The marriage can be contracted in France between two people of different sex or of the same sex, being 18 years old.

Each of the future spouses must:

• give consent,
• have no relationship of close relationship or alliance with the future spouse,
• not to be already married in France or abroad.

Place of marriage:

The marriage will be celebrated in the municipality where one of the future spouse, or one of his parents, has his home or residence established for a minimum of one month on the day of the publication of the banns in town hall.

Wedding file:

The future spouses must go to the civil status department of the City to arrange a date and time for their ceremony and obtain all the information necessary for the constitution of their marriage record.

They will have to personally file their marriage record at least 1 month before the expected date of their marriage.

Documents to provide :

• proof of residence
• certificate of honor of residence and celibacy
• full copies of the birth certificates, in original, less than 3 months old, 6 months old if these documents are provided by a foreign authority,
• identity documents of future spouses
• identity of the witnesses (minimum 2, maximum 4), indication of their professions and residences
• fact sheet completed (domiciles and professions of the spouses, their parents, witnesses ....)
• certificate of the notary in case of marriage contract

For foreign nationals, additional documents:

• a complete copy of the birth certificate of less than 6 months legalized and accompanied by their translator by a sworn translator
• a certificate of custom issued by the foreign authority
• a certificate of matrimonial capacity
• proof of residence or residence
