The census is mandatory for every young person (boy or girl) of French nationality, from their 16th birthday, near the town hall of his home.
The interested party or one of its legal representatives will have to go in Town hall to the Population service, equipped with the following parts:
• a copy of the family record book,
• proof of address,
• a copy of the national identity card or passport of the person concerned.
Following this process, the young person obtains a census certificate which will be required for registration for national exams, such as a bachelor's degree or driving license, and public competitions.
He will receive a call for Defense and Citizenship Day in a military compound or an institution close to his home.
He will be automatically registered on the list of electors during these 18 years.
The census is an integral part of the citizenship path.
